Haven’t done a commercial photoshoot in a while but was glad to get back into it. This time with kids! Always a challenge because of their short attention span and or shyness or just plain lack of regard for the work one is trying to do But we managed and I like the shots!

Storm approaching Xunantunich

This photograph was taken during a visit to the Mayan Archaeological site of Xunantunich in Belize. This is the view from the top of “El Castillo” or the main structure A6. While the main attraction are the elaborate stucco carvings or “friezes” my attention was called by this approaching storm.

Garifuna Drummers

Looking for more experiential content for Destination Belize I decided it was time to head south. The Garifuna culture is strong and engrained in the daily life of Hopkins Village. Hotel guests are often entertained by local performers and many times are invited to participate. This is what I wanted to bring across in this photo session. I was very lucky that everything came together in a rather short time and Warren and his crew as well as Kate, our drumming apprentice, were a lot of fun to work with. The weather did not cooperate fully with what I had in mind but I think it worked out well in the end.

Kite Boarding in Caye Caulker

It is the 3rd time in Caye Caulker this week and I don’t remember why the other visits but this one I am excited about. First time I am getting in the water with expensive gear to experiment some new techniques. The objective: get a good action shot for the water sports section of Destination Belize. I really wanted to get away from the typical hobbie cats, planche à voile etc… I had seen these kiteboard guys go up and down all day long (yes they do this for a living) on previous visits to Caye Caulker. So to make a long story short, I met with Rodolph from KiteXplorer and next thing I knew I was in the water firing away at these fast moving targets on the surface and in the air. Rodolph did mention that this was probably the hardest sport to photograph and I think he is right. Results far from perfect but there are some good frames I think!

Tranquility Bay

I was not planning on taking photographs while on this Video shoot for Destination Belize but this place is so stunning I had to take little breaks from the video camera and capture the awesomeness of this location. Tranquility Bay is a small property as north as I had ever been in Ambergris Caye. The main attraction? The Belize Barrier Reef is a stone’s throw from the beach. Carlos was a great host and he is not kidding when he says you can fish, snorkel and dive right off the beach at Tranquility Bay!
